Job Title: Protection Master

Job Title: Protection Master.

Reports To: Site Person in Charge and Night Manager.

Location: London, but may be required to work away.

Role:

To provide Protection in accordance with Rule Book 16 and PRO-023 Competence Assurance in Track Protection (LU).

Experience: 24 months track working experience.

Protection Master Specific Behaviour (Rule Book 16):

You must:

  • Hold a planning meeting with the Site Person in Charge.
  • Only access the track during Traffic Hours
  • Be familiar with the area where you will be providing protection.
  • Pass safety critical messages using the format in Rule Book 1 Communications.
  • Check that your Current Rail Indicator Device (CRID) is working correctly, before using it to test for the absence of traction current.
  • You can protect separate groups of personnel on the track in accordance with sections 4.3 and 4.2 of Rule Book 16.

You must in all cases:

  • Agree the extent of the worksite with each Site Person in Charge.
  • Agree where the Site Person in Charge will be located.
  • Agree the Protection Plan (where one is required).
  • Communicate as required with the Site Person in Charge.
  • Remain within the protected area throughout the time that protection is operative.
  • Make sure, by means of on- site checks when work is in progress, that personnel understand any working restrictions, and do not go outside the protected area to any other location where protection is required.
  • Monitor the progress of the work of each site person in charge to make sure the work will finish by the call-back time.
  • Maintain your log book.

General Behaviour:

  • Do not interfere with, or misuse, any equipment, facilities or materials.
  • Maintain a tidy work area.
  • Co-operate in all respects to provide a healthy and safe working environment.
  • Keep vehicles, tools and equipment in good order and report any faults.
  • Know the location of fire points in the areas you are working.
  • Know the fire drill and to ensure that fire points exist and are not obstructed.
  • Know the location of first aid points in the area you are working.
  • Attend for work promptly and properly equipped.
