To do this we recognised that we had to develop and maintain a Business Management System that suited our business, aspirations for growth, provided uniformity throughout the company and allowed us to attain and maintain industry recognized accreditation for our services.

Our organisation has developed over the recent years to match our growth and to make available all necessary resources to manage and deliver our works.
We have established two depots and offices, together with other offices in Finchley and Ireland, to facilitate our works and have structured our business accordingly.
Each of our Depots is controlled by a Director who has a management team appointed and structured to focus on delivery. 
All other services within 1stinrail are shared to ensure minimisation of duplication. These centralised services include:

In addition to the above we have recognised the need for external support for our qualified and experienced HSQE Manager, to provide assistance when necessary but also to add weight to issues when in need of Board approval and provide that further sense check on decisions and plans as we develop. We therefore have a consultancy agreement with a specialist Safety, Quality and Environmental organisation who also assist us in our regular internal audits.

Track Maintenance and Renewal
1stinrail’s core activity has always been track maintenance and renewal. Our 230 strong workforce provide 24/7 planned and reactive maintenance to clients throughout the UK and Ireland. 1stinrail currently inspect and maintain over 40 Train Operating Depots throughout the UK with sites ranging from Glasgow to Southampton, and Cardiff to Ipswich. With rapid reaction teams deployed from our Doncaster and London facilities we guarantee a timely and efficient solution to any track repair or renewal.

Provision of Safety Critical Personnel
1stinrail’s management team understand the commercial constraints placed on companies and project teams many of whom do not want to employ dedicated personnel. In order to assist our clients we regularly provide skilled and experienced resources to assist with the safe and effective delivery of projects.
Our personnel provision is underpinned by our Competence Management System ensuring that the right skill is deployed at the right time to the right project.
We currently provide personnel to Tube Lines Limited, DLR, and Manchester Metrolink on a regular basis and we are developing relationships with other mass transit and light rail organisations.

Track Inspection
Our team of track engineers offer many forms of track inspection and asset condition reporting. We undertake track surveys using the latest in measurement technology or undertake routine visual inspections. Track reports are provided in any number of formats to meet with the client’s requirements and specifications.

Depot Remodelling
Working with our design partners, Novus Rail, we offer a full design and installation service. We regularly complete remodelling works in time limited possessions whilst reusing and recycling materials from site.

Minor Civil Engineering Works & Building Repair
Our experience in working in the railway environment has offered us a number of opportunities to deliver minor civil engineering projects on and about the line.
Our civil engineering capabilities continue to grow and these have been complimented with our growing experience in depot building maintenance and repair.
