The design, supply and installation of p-way for the extension of the Port of Tilbury Extension in Essex.

The scope of the works was to design the P-Way (as part of the integrated design for the Port extension) and from a connection into the running line, together with the incoming branch line and associated sidings.

The formation for the track was prepared by others, 1stinrail installed the Geotextile membrane, bottom ballast, track (in forms as required by the design), shunters walkways and proprietary road crossings.

Responsibilities included

  • Design of p-way
  • Provision and installation of new ballasted track comprising serviceable F type concrete sleepers, new 56kg/m FB rail (5500m)
  • Provision and installation of gauge widened track on hardwood timber with FB check rail – pre-curved rails (783m)
  • Provision and installation of ballasted BV8 FB turnouts on hardwood timber bearers (11 no.)
  • Provision and installation of shunters walkways (4264m)
  • Provision and installation of Rosehill rubber crossings (92m)
  • Provision and installation of embedded track – including provision and installation of Edilon (70m)
  • Works also included verification of design, site setting out, control of and procurement of road mobile tamping machine of tracks, welding of track joints as required
